TVB launches Qianhai HQ to spearhead GBA cultural expansion

Local broadcaster TVB has established its new headquarters in Qianhai, Shenzhen, marking a strategic move to deepen its footprint across the Greater Bay Area (GBA) market.

The move accelerates TVB’s overarching strategy to leverage its media platform strengths, amplify its intellectual property (IP) value, and export its cultural influence, positioning the company as a leading strategic cultural services provider in the region.

Siu Sai-wo, TVB’s general manager of business operations, said: "Hong Kong people love television, and it remains the city's most influential medium. No matter how times change, television has accompanied Hong Kong through every major moment, deeply shaping societal values and consumer choices. Today, I am honored to represent TVB at this momentous press conference to share our latest developments. As Hong Kong's most widely reached and influential media outlet, TVB recently held its Annual General Meeting and approved its official rebranding to Wireless Group, cementing our transformation into a cross-media film, television, and entertainment conglomerate."

"During daily prime time in Hong Kong, TVB pulls a commanding 20-point rating every single minute. This means that at any given minute, one out of every five Hong Kong residents is tuning in to TVB. We have successfully built a fully integrated online and offline media matrix spanning free-to-air television, the myTV SUPER streaming platform, and social media channels like Instagram and Facebook. Leveraging this immense viewership, we are uniquely positioned to provide a powerful launchpad for Mainland enterprises looking to expand globally," he added.

With nearly 60 years of extensive IP assets and deep roots in Hong Kong drama culture, TVB is pushing its strategic upgrade forward. The company is actively transitioning from purely operating a media platform to maximising its IP commercial value and projecting global cultural influence.

At the launch event, TVB also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ByteDance's AI platform Volcano Engine. The partnership will centre on Doubao’s video generation model, Seedance 2.0. The two entities will collaborate across four core dimensions: intelligent entertainment content production, digital short-drama production, IP commercialisation, and cloud infrastructure development.

Volcano Engine will work directly with TVB's FF Studio, using AI short dramas as a springboard to explore how Seedance 2.0’s video generation capabilities can elevate the production quality of AI-generated environments, characters, and animations.

Meanwhile, TVB also plans to establish a dual-centre model driven by "Hong Kong creative R&D + Shenzhen production execution." The studio will introduce advanced technologies such as AI virtual sets and intelligent editing to push film and TV production toward digitalisation and industrialisation. Concurrently, TVB will pursue multi-dimensional development around classic and new blockbuster IPs—such as The Queen of News and War and Beauty—while preserving the distinct identity of Hong Kong dramas.

TVB highlighted that its flagship channels, Jade and Pearl, have been accessible in the GBA since 2007. Following the reclamation of its Guangdong channel advertising rights in 2024, TVB re-established its Guangzhou office this year and expanded its marketing team to accelerate the construction of the Qianhai headquarters and film production base. According to the company, TVB draws over one million viewers per minute during prime time, achieving 30 million monthly active viewers, and capturing a highly affluent, youth-centric audience of nearly 2900 million users.
