TransUnion turns Cantonese idiom into fraud alert campaign

TransUnion Hong Kong has launched its new “One service, eight alerts” campaign, using a playful twist on a familiar Cantonese expression to encourage Hongkongers to stay vigilant in protecting their digital identity and credit health amid rising identity theft risks.
Developed with creative agency Omelette Digital, the campaign has taken inspiration from the traditional Chinese idiom “一眼關七” , which conveys the idea of staying alert to everything happening around you.
Building on this familiar saying, it has introduced a new expression, “一眼關八” - extending the idea from seven to eight to represent the eight key alert triggers that may signal a consumer’s personal information might have been compromised.
By translating a complex financial service into a simple, culturally resonant and easily relatable concept, the campaign aims to make multi-dimensional fraud prevention more intuitive, accessible, and memorable.
At the heart of the campaign is a bespoke eight-lens binocular, featured prominently across the campaign video and key visuals. Serving as a striking metaphor for TransUnion’s holistic approach to credit monitoring, the device symbolises continuous oversight across eight key areas through real-time alerts. Its unconventional design seeks to reinforce the ability to “watch out” for multiple aspects of one’s financial identity simultaneously through a single service, making the campaign message both instantly understandable and highly memorable.
The custom-designed eight-lens binocular is split into two distinct sections to make the alerts intuitive at a glance, each representing a key dimension of TransUnion's monitoring capabilities and the breadth of protection offered through credit alert. The alerts fall into two categories: personal information and credit account activity, covering address change, phone number change, new credit inquiry and new credit account; and credit health and risk indicators, covering score change, credit utilisation change, new delinquent account and new public record.

The campaign rollout features a multi-channel video series highlighting common fraud risks faced by Hong Kong consumers, including unauthorised loan applications and identity theft used to facilitate credit card fraud. Complementing the overarching brand explainer are two scenario-driven videos, a series of short cutdowns, and digital banners, all strategically deployed across digital, social, and programmatic channels to engage consumers across multiple touchpoints.
Launching in August 2026 and lasting for at least one year, the campaign aims to encourage consumers to adopt proactive credit monitoring habits by transforming a familiar local cultural reference into an actionable framework for fraud awareness. At the same time, it looks to demonstrate the importance of safeguarding and actively monitoring one's digital identity and credit health.

As fraud cases continue to rise across Hong Kong, various financial brands have been rolling out creative campaigns to empower citizens in the fight against fraud. For example, back in May, Bank of China (Hong Kong) partnered with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Hong Kong Police Force to launch two new anti-fraud education mobile promotional vehicles, helping the public learn more about fraud prevention. The mobile vehicles toured Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories to educate residents about fraud prevention.
