TikTok Shop is stepping up consumer education and buyer protection efforts in the Philippines through a collaboration with the department of trade and industry (DTI), as the platform prepares for its upcoming 11.11 and 12.12 Mega Sales.
The initiative, launched in support of Consumer Welfare Month, combines platform safeguards with the #TikTokShopSmart campaign, which shares guidance on product safety, authentic goods and consumer rights.
According to TikTok Shop’s Global Safety Report covering July 2025 to July 2026, the platform rejected more than 208 million products before listing, representing 99% of violative products being proactively removed. A further two million restricted or prohibited products were removed after listing.

The platform said its buyer protection measures include seller verification, product compliance checks, detection technology and intellectual property protection. It also offers post-purchase assistance, including return and refund processes, to help buyers address transaction concerns.
“At TikTok Shop, we want our shoppers to feel confident about buying on the platform. This is why we work hard to develop and implement safeguards across the shopping journey, from product listing and seller compliance to post-purchase assistance. We also recognise that consumers need clear, accessible information to understand product details, assess potential risks, and know what steps they can take when a concern arises. Through our #TikTokShopSmart campaign, we are able to empower consumers to make informed shopping decisions,” said Yves Gonzalez, head of public policy for the Philippines at TikTok Shop.
Beyond its platform measures, TikTok contributed a session to a consumer organisation assembly organised by the DTI for Consumer Welfare Month. The session focused on communicating product safety information and consumer rights through digital platforms.
Titled “Sharing product safety online: How to turn product safety information into consumer action”, the session was led by J. Em Ang, a Filipino business consultant, certified public accountant, tax adviser and content creator known for explaining financial literacy and taxation topics.
The discussion explored how consumer organisations could turn product safety warnings, recalls, information on counterfeit and unsafe products, and consumer advisories into clear digital content. It also covered short-form advocacy videos, with an emphasis on accuracy and transparency.
Meanwhile, #TikTokShopSmart is sharing practical shopping advice ahead of the platform's Mega Sales events. Topics include finding authentic products on TikTok Shop Mall, checking product safety and certifications, understanding the right to redress, and identifying counterfeit goods.
The campaign also encourages shoppers to review product descriptions, customer ratings and reviews, and seller information before making purchases. Buyers are encouraged to familiarise themselves with applicable return and refund policies and the channels available for raising transaction concerns.
