A significant number of HongKongers are prioritising better financial management, physical health improvement and travel in their 2024 resolutions, a survey has found.

The latest survey titled "YouGov Surveys: Serviced" provides quick survey results from nationally representative or targeted audiences in multiple markets. The data is based on surveys of adults aged 18+ years in 18 markets with sample sizes varying between 510 and 2,044 for each market. All surveys were conducted online from December 2022 to October 2023. Data from Indonesia and Hong Kong have used online representative samples.

The latest survey, conducted by YouGov, found that 53% of HongKongers plan to manage their money better in 2024, while two in five also hope to improve their physical health (44%) and to travel more (44%).

Meanwhile, 43% of HongKongers plan to spend more time with friends and family, and some look to improve mental health (39%) and making more sustainable purchases (28%) in the upcoming year.

Compared to 2023, this year sees a sharp decrease in those who wished to improve their physical health (-21%) and a significant drop in those who hoped to improve financial management (-9%).

On the other hand, more HongKongers want to make more sustainable purchases this year (+10%), while some decide to spend less time on social media (+6%) and on their phones overall (+6%), as well as reducing alcohol consumption (+6%).

Regarding gender disparities, the survey found that there were no significant differences in terms of goals for 2024, except that men are more likely than women to set improving physical health as their New Year resolutions (+12%), while women are more likely than men to list spending less time on their phone (+8%).

Regarding age groups, Gen Xs and baby boomers lean more on travelling more as their 2024 goal, while more Gen Zs want to spend more time with friends and family and Millennials prioritise mental health improvement.

The survey concluded that brands would do well in 2024 by seeking to connect with consumers who wish to ease financial burdens, seek effective wellness solutions or travel frequently.
