Singapore Airlines has introduced flight ticket discounts of up to 60% for Hong Kong travellers to destinations across APAC, including Bali, the Maldives and Australia.

According to its official website, Singapore Airlines said on Thursday that it offers flash sale deals from HK$1500 for economy class tickets, including tax. Available destinations include Singapore, Bali, Kuala Lumpur and Penang from 25 to 29 September.

The airline also offered discounted tickets to destinations in Asia-Pacific for travel until 30 June next year, to various cities in Australia, from HK$4,070 for economy class, and HK$4,695 for the Maldives. The promotion will be available until 15 October.

The Travel Fest promotion is launched in line with the airline’s participation in the Holiday and Travel Fair 2024, according to SIA spokesperson when MARKETING-INTERACTIVE reached out.

“We offer various types of promotion activities throughout the year in response to market situation and to attract more customers to fly Singapore Airlines to try our latest inflight offerings,” said the spokesperson.

This move is expected to initiate a new airfare discount war in Hong Kong and will put pressure on regional rival Cathay Pacific Airways and AirAsia.

Earlier last year, Cathay Pacific launched a giveaway of 12,500 free flight tickets from Singapore to Hong Kong, as part of the HK$1bn global promotional campaign "Hello Hong Kong".

Citizens could join the giveaway by first signing in as members of Cathay Pacific, they could then answer three questions. Prizes would be awarded to the first 12,500 entrants who answer the questions correctly.

"The tickets will be distributed via lucky draws, games, 'buy-one-get-one-free' offers, some will be provided by tourism industry and government departments," Airport Authority Hong Kong's CEO Fred Lam said earlier.

Cathay’s budget airline HK Express also offered 100,000 discounted tickets last year at a starting price of HK$10 as part of its 10th anniversary campaign. It covered a total of 15 routes such as Fukuoka, Kaohsiung, Ningbo, Jeju and Phuket for travel between 10 November 2023 and 30 June 2024.

To keep up with its competitors, Hong Kong Airlines also gave away 6,800 air tickets to various Asian cities such as Osaka and Bali in July as part of its ticket giveaway promotion "Click & Go".

Sponsored by Hong Kong International Airport’s “World of Winners” ticket giveaway campaign, the airline aimed to distribute 25,000 free round-trip tickets in total from Hong Kong to 20 cities across six countries in Asia, in an effort to contribute to the Hong Kong tourism industry after the pandemic.
