Seven’s broadcast of the 2025 AFL grand final has emerged as the year’s most-watched program, with the network reporting a combined reach of 6.1 million viewers across linear and BVOD platforms.
The Brisbane Lions’ win over Geelong drew a total TV audience of 4.18 million, making it the highest-rated grand final since 2016. Streaming via 7plus Sport accounted for 969,000 viewers, a 48% increase on last year’s figure, as Seven continues to lean into its digital-first strategy following its acquisition of AFL streaming rights.
The network claimed an 81.1% share of the commercial TV audience on Saturday, while 7plus dominated live streaming with a 90.9% share. Across the season, Seven’s AFL coverage reached 17.4 million Australians, with 4.4 million streaming via 7plus.
The AFL post-match presentations alone reached 5.46 million, with a national total TV audience of 3.9 million, up 18% on 2024. 985,000 also tuned in on 7plus Sport.
Seven Digital’s group managing director Gereurd Roberts said the results reflect changing consumption habits and growing advertiser interest in BVOD. “We’re seeing strong growth driven by premium sport and a better user experience,” he said.
The numbers reinforce the AFL’s value as a high-reach, high-engagement property across screens. National television sales director Katie Finney said the grand final continues to deliver “unmatched scale” for brands looking to tap into cultural moments.
With the Bathurst 1000, AFLW finals and a home Ashes series ahead, Seven is positioning its sport offering as a year-round driver of audience and ad revenue, both on broadcast and digital.
