Local broadcaster RTHK has pledged to tell good stories of China and Hong Kong as it celebrates its 95th anniversary celebration.

Secretary for commerce and economic development Algernon Yau said on Thursday during a ceremony that the public broadcaster will do more to help HongKongers and tourists learn more about Hong Kong.

During a speech at the ceremony, Yau said that he was very confident that in the Year of the Rabbit, RTHK will shine brighter and use multimedia platforms to tell good stories of Hong Kong and China, to provide more programmes on the topics such as the Basic Law, the Constitution, national security education and the Greater Bay Area.

"These can help bring about social cohesion, and make the public, especially young people, more knowledgeable about the country and society," he added.

Yau also said that RTHK will provide multimedia broadcasts in different languages. "Foreigners living in Hong Kong and those in the mainland and overseas can know more about the latest developments in the SAR and its unlimited potential," he said.

At the same ceremony, director of broadcasting Eddie Cheung said that RTHK will collaborate with different government departments and public organisations to tell good Hong Kong stories.

Referencing from Hong Kong’s iconic mountain Lion Rock, he said: “With the Lion Rock behind, we have a lot of touching stories of HongKongers working hard.”

RTHK will produce more programmes to deepen citizens' understanding of China, as well as programmes to promote sports development and social integration, so as to promote doing sports in the city and create an inclusive society, according to Yau.
