R/GA has named design leader Ren Rigby as its first global chief brand officer, marking another step in the agency’s push to redefine its identity as an independent company.

Rigby - formerly known as Mike Rigby - re-joins R/GA from design and innovation consultancy Proto, which they co-founded. Reporting to Tiffany Rolfe, R/GA’s chair and global chief creative officer, Rigby will focus on evolving the agency’s brand, including its new AI products and blueprint ecosystem, while helping drive growth for both R/GA and its clients.

“Ren’s experience at the intersection of design and innovation will be invaluable in helping us codify our brand for this new AI era,” said Rolfe. “Their craft - the ability to bring clarity, beauty, and purpose through design - will ensure our brand and products stand apart with a distinctly human touch.”

The appointment follows R/GA’s move to independence earlier this year in partnership with private equity firm Truelink Capital. The agency has since invested in new talent, product development and acquisitions, including AI system design studio Addition.

Rigby previously led R/GA’s global brand practice, overseeing projects for Nike, Google, Shopify and PepsiCo. Their 23-year career has spanned roles at The Chase, Pentagram London, Landor and Interbrand.

“R/GA thrives when technology is evolving and the rules are still being written,” Rigby said. “This unique combination of design culture, rich history, and newfound independence makes this such a special moment to rejoin.”
