Reddit gives users more control over profile visibility in latest update
share on
Social media platform Reddit has rolled out a new suite of profile features designed to give users more control over their public presence on the platform.
The update introduces a “content and activity” setting that lets Redditors decide what shows up on their profile, on a subreddit-by-subreddit basis.
Previously, a user’s full post and comment history was automatically visible, but with the latest update, users now have the option to hide everything, keep all activity public, or selectively display posts and comments from specific communities. The new controls stop short of post-level customisation, limiting visibility changes to the community level only.

Despite the added privacy, Reddit said moderators will continue to have access to a user’s public activity from the last 28 days under certain circumstances. These include when a user posts or comments in a subreddit, sends a modmail (including join requests), or applies for approved status in restricted communities.
Users who receive a comment on their profile post will also temporarily be able to view the commenter’s full history.
Meanwhile, Reddit has consolidated all profile-related settings under a new section called "curate your profile". This brings together the new visibility controls, along with options to toggle the visibility of "not safe for work" (NSFW) content and follower count.

In addition, the platform has refreshed its activity summary feature, offering a clearer snapshot of each user’s Karma count, total contributions, account age, and active communities, all tailored to reflect their visibility preferences.
The new features build on a March update that aimed to help users better understand community rules and content performance. At the time, Reddit introduced pre-posting checks to flag potential rule violations, clearer prompts when posts are removed, and simplified reposting to other subreddits.
Users now also see posting requirements, such as account age, before they publish, receive subreddit suggestions based on their content, and have access to post analytics including views, upvotes, and shares.
Meanwhile, Reddit also gave users the ability to hide ads from their feeds. By selecting 'hide' on an ad, users will automatically mute future ads from that advertiser for at least a year, with the option to re-hide them again after that period.
