Amazon Prime Video has reportedly released its first series from Malaysia titled That Cover Girl. The drama series will star industry names such as Alicia Amin, Aiman Hakim, Hisyam Hamid, and Siti Saleha.

Over six episodes, the series follows the story of young Muslim entrepreneur Sofi Safwan, whose fashion business is beset with scandalous problems and a hostile work environment.

Abid Hussain, series creator and director reportedly said a t the series premiere in Kuala Lumpur that the idea behind the series was to see a woman on top who is ambitious and who wants to build something.

He noted that a strong businesswoman character who wants to prove a point is not something that has ever really been seen on television, particularly in Malaysian shows.

Being on an exclusive Over-The-Top (OTT) platform, Hussain also highlighted the need to ensure the series quality was on par with Prime Video’s other offerings while working on the film.

He said that it was necessary that anyone watching from around the world would not think this was a "third-grade show".

Locally produced series and films in Malaysian television stations need to adhere to Film Censorship Board (LPF) guidelines. However, the team enjoyed more creative freedom while working on That Cover Girl, since it was premiering on an OTT platform, he added.

Having this creative freedom also gave the cast an opportunity to explore more with their characters and have robust discussions with the crew during the filming process, he added.

With that said, Sharizal and his team still submitted That Cover Girl to the LPF for review as a safety measure, which caused them to have to censor the F-word from an episode.

The release of That Cover Girl on Amazon Prime brings a more curated and tailored experience for Malaysian viewers through localised content. This is in line with Amazon Prime's announcement earlier this year committing to invest in Malaysia and the creative community across Southeast Asia. Under the same initiative, viewers could also opt to switch their user interface language to Bahasa Melayu.

All six episodes of That Cover Girl have since been released on Amazon Prime Video. It is available in Malaysia and over 240 territories worldwide.
