Premium outdoor brand Arc'teryx denounces unaffiliated stores in Indonesia

Last year, Arc’teryx fans in Indonesia celebrated the opening of what appeared to be the brand’s first local stores, with an outlet debuting at Beachwalk Shopping Center in Bali in February 2025, followed by a second at Plaza Senayan, Jakarta, in August. The openings sparked speculation that the Canadian premium outdoor brand was expanding in the Southeast Asian market, bringing its globally recognised apparel and equipment to Indonesian adventure enthusiasts.
However, Arc’teryx Equipment - a division of Amer Sports Canada Inc. - has clarified that these stores are not part of its official retail network. The company stated that products sold in the outlets are unlicensed, do not meet the brand’s quality standards, and come without an official warranty. To date, Arc’teryx has no physical stores, authorised distributors, or direct sales operations in Indonesia.
Cameron Clark, head of legal at Arc’teryx Equipment, said in a press statement that the store openings coincided with an ongoing legal case at the Jakarta Commercial Court regarding the registration of the Arc’teryx trademark in Indonesia, which the company claims was filed illegally by a China-based entity.

“We want to emphasise that the stores opened in Indonesia are not official Arc’teryx outlets. The products sold there do not come from Arc’teryx Equipment, the company established in 1989 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and officially registered its brand in 1992,” Clark added.
Arc’teryx Equipment expressed deep disappointment over a 30 December 2025 ruling by the Jakarta Commercial Court, which rejected the company’s petition to cancel the trademark registration held by the Chinese firm.
“We are very disappointed with the decision of the Jakarta Commercial Court. The ruling did not examine the similarity of the two contested trademarks, nor did it consider the bad faith involved in the trademark registration by the China-based company,” Clark said.
The company stressed that both issues are typically central to trademark cancellation proceedings and highlighted that it has submitted extensive evidence, including proof of global trademark registrations dating back to 1992. Arc’teryx views the ruling as misaligned with the principles of fairness, given its position as the longstanding global owner of the brand.
Consumer awareness in Indonesia recognises Arc’teryx as a Canadian brand, the company added, and the court decision could raise concerns among international businesses about legal certainty and trademark protection in the country.
Arc’teryx affirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its brand worldwide and intends to pursue an appeal in Indonesia. The company views this legal action as crucial to protecting consumers, preventing public confusion, and ensuring that the Arc’teryx name remains under the control of its rightful owners globally.
According to Indonesia’s directorate general of intellectual property (DJKI), the Arc’teryx store operating in Bali has been registered in the country under the name Perfect Supply Chain Co Limited, a China-based company, since 2023. DJKI emphasised the importance of registering trademarks in Indonesia to avoid legal disputes, noting that the nation’s protection system follows the principles of territoriality and “first to file.” As a result, because the Canadian brand did not register its trademark locally, the Chinese company currently holds the rights to the Arc’teryx name in Indonesia.
