News Corp Australia has announced a series of key appointments across its sport network as it looks to strengthen its editorial coverage and commercial strategy.
The network, which reaches more than 8 million Australians each month across digital and print, is expanding its leadership team to drive audience engagement and new commercial opportunities.
Jessica Montague (pictured) has been appointed head of commercial content for the News Sport and Prestige Networks, a newly created role aimed at enhancing the network’s brand partnerships. Formerly Vogue Australia’s executive editor, Montague will focus on commercial growth by aligning sport, fashion, and lifestyle content with advertiser opportunities.
“Eliza Sewell” has been named editor of Code Sports, returning to News Corp after a stint at The Age. Sewell previously spent more than a decade at the Herald Sun and served as national AFL editor for the News Sport Network. Her appointment comes alongside the launch of Code Sports’ new marketing campaign, ‘No BS. Just Sport’, which positions the platform as the go-to destination for under-40 sports fans.
In editorial moves, Will Hogan has been promoted to AFL editor, leading Australia’s largest AFL newsroom. Hogan, who joined News in 2021 as AFL chief of staff, will oversee the sport’s coverage with reporters in every state and territory.
Meanwhile, award-winning Herald Sun journalist Jay Clark has been elevated to chief football writer for the News Sport Network. Clark, known for his breaking news and in-depth AFL reporting, will bring industry connections and insight to the role.
News Sport executive editor Jason Scott said the appointments would strengthen the network’s editorial and commercial strategy.
“These changes reinforce our commitment to delivering the best sports journalism while creating new opportunities for commercial growth,” Scott said.
The appointments signal News Corp’s continued investment in its sport network as it looks to expand its influence in the Australian sports media landscape.
