National Geographic (Nat Geo) has opened its first Southeast Asian adventure-themed retail experience in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

The retail experience features premium outdoor and lifestyle apparel and accessories that are well-suited for varied climates and outdoor activities as it is for stylish urban exploration.

The Nat Geo Apparel bridges the gap between function and fashion and its curated product line-up ranges from GORE-TEX windproof jackets, water-resistant hiking pants, tees, joggers and athleisure outfits.

It also offers products including COOLMAX technology, an eco-friendly polyester material made from 100% recycled textiles or PET bottles that helps keep the wearer cool and dry.

The store will also feature accessories such as backpacks, hats, socks and Nat Geo Apparel's luggage.

"Thanks to Malaysia’s vast natural destinations, we have seen a love for exploration and the great outdoors amongst many people here. With technical clothing and the rugged aesthetic also becoming increasingly popular fashion choices, we also see National Geographic Apparel having a strong appeal amongst active urbanites,” said Joyce Yap, chief executive officer, retail, Kuala Lumpur Pavilion.

“With the new National Geographic Apparel store, we seek to curate a contemporary and fashion-forward retail environment with elements of National Geographic storytelling. We hope the store on its own will become a destination for all adventure enthusiasts.”

Nat Geo Apparel stores currently operate in Australia, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan.

The opening of the store in Malaysia also coincides with Nat Geo's 135th anniversary.

“National Geographic-inspired styles have been making waves among trendsetters across the Asia Pacific region and we’re thrilled to introduce shoppers in Malaysia to this exciting lifestyle offering,” said Alex Baillie, vice president and general manager for National Geographic retail, Southeast Asia, India and Middle East.

“National Geographic Apparel encapsulates a sense of exploration and belonging that resonates with our consumers. As an impact driven brand, National Geographic aims to further expand the sharing of knowledge through intentional products and inviting retail experiences,” he added.

The 200-piece apparel collection is part of its "Choose good with Mandai" that aims to raise awareness about how individuals can collectively protect nature and wildlife when they decide on what to wear for the day.

Apparel in the collection include shorts that come with a detachable reusable tote bag, a bucket hat that doubles as a bag, and a pair of pants with a dual pocket organiser to separate paper and plastics for the wearer to recycle later on.
