As Malaysians prepare to celebrate Deepavali, Maxis has released an uplifting short film spotlighting Dr. Madhu, fondly known as the “Teddy bear doctor,” in the latest instalment of its "Tomorrow begins today" campaign.
The video, released in partnership with media outlet The Rakyat Post, tells the real-life story of Dr. Madhu, a long-time Maxis user and medical professional who has dedicated his life to helping the homeless, and children in orphanages. Through his volunteer medical outreach, he offers free check-ups, treatment, and compassion to those in need.

Beyond medical care, Dr. Madhu’s work embodies the essence of the Deepavali spirit of light triumphing over darkness. Through the power of connection, he has built a growing network of volunteers for his Teddy Mobile Clinic, many of whom met through online communities. What began as an individual act of kindness has evolved into a collective effort, bringing warmth and hope to countless lives.
Dr. Madhu’s story shows that small, consistent actions can create lasting impact when people come together, said a Maxis in a statement. At its core, the campaign is positioned as a reminder that every connection, whether digital or human, can inspire change and build a stronger, kinder community.
Part of the telco's new "Tomorrow begins today" platform, the film continues Maxis’ ongoing series that highlights "Real people, real stories". By turning the spotlight on authentic human stories, Maxis reinforces its message that innovation and empathy go hand in hand.
Earlier in August, Maxis marked Merdeka with two short films in collaboration with Tatler Malaysia, celebrating purpose, and progress. “One dream at a time” features Malaysia’s top women’s doubles badminton pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, highlighting not just their athletic achievements but the daily dedication, friendship, and mindset that drive them.
The second film, “Ilmu Cahaya Merdeka,” ("Knowledge that lights up Merdeka") focuses on Khairul “Bird” Anwar, founder and CEO of Pandai, an educational app for primary and secondary students. The video showcases how his vision is helping young Malaysians access personalized learning and build meaningful progress step by step.
This month, Maxis appointed IPG Mediabrands’ Universal McCann (UM) as its new media agency, following a competitive pitch process, A+M learned. The media pitch, which reportedly began at the end of last year, concluded with the appointment finalised around mid-2025.
Maxis confirmed with A+M, that Universal McCann (UM) was appointed for media duties, including strategy, planning, buying, research, and data and analytics, while their bespoke UM Studios unit will manage social media planning and communications.
