



Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission names new chairman

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has appointed Mohamad Salim Fateh Din (pictured) as its new chairman for two years effective 1 March. He will be replacing Muhammad Azmi bin Mohd Zain who ended his service as interim chairman on 28 February.
Previously, Fateh Din was the former interim chairman of MCMC in addition to serving as a member of the MCMC Commission. He has also held various positions such as group managing director of Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), founder of Gapurna Group as well as non-executive chairman of Giant Malaysia and non-executive chairman of British American Tobacco (Malaysia).

MCMC is confident that his extensive experience and stature throughout serving as interim chairman and his involvement in the corporate sector, are able to give him an advantage to strengthen the role of the Commission and the national digital ecosystem including the National Digital Interconnection Plan (JENDELA) to increase the level of comprehensive and quality connectivity, as well as development efforts 5G network across the country.
In addition, the agenda to expand the Digital Economy Center (PEDi) as a transformation center for entrepreneurs and efforts to deal with the problem of fake news, ugly content and scams will also be given focus.
In the meantime, regulation in the telecommunications, broadcasting, post and courier sectors, as well as being strengthened to enable digital signatures will continue to keep the industry relevant and competitive to drive Malaysia towards. On this occasion, the 'golden digital decade'. MCMC would also like to express its appreciation and gratitude to Datuk Muhammad Azmi for his contribution and service as interim chairman leading MCMC.

Previously, MCMC appointed Muhammad Azmi as interim chairman of MCMC. He takes on the role from Mohamad Salim Fateh Din who held the position since June 2022.
Azmi has over 26 years of experience in the public sector across ministries and departments in the government. He is currently the Director-General of the Department of the Director General of Federal Lands and Mines, Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change (NRECC).
