Malaysian bags and accessories brand Christy Ng has opened in Indonesia, marking the brand's expansion outside of the country.

In an Instagram post, the brand shared that its Indonesian outlet, opened at Kota Kasablanka in Jakarta, will feature Indonesia-exclusive pre-releases, restocked best sellers and items that were sold out online. Some of the popular picks include the Russo bags, Alesso bags, the Como wallet and the Yuki cardholder.

At the store's opening over the weekend, shoppers who purchased a minimum of RP1,200,000 in one transaction were gifted with a free Nomad micro bag charm.

Christy Ng's arrival into Indonesia has been long-awaited, with the brand teasing its opening with a guerilla stunt. In a video posted on Instagram, the stunt featured women walking in a line carrying bright pink shopping bags that were bigger than their bodies. The women were seen walking down streets and towards the Kota Kasablanka mall.

Christy Ng, established in 2012, first opened a store in 2016 in 1Utama. It has since grown to 12 stores across Malaysia and an eCommerce platform, serving global audience. According to its website, the brand aims to fill the gaps in the shoe market for the need of comfortable and stylish footwear for Asian women.

The bags and accessories brand is not the only local Malaysian brand to make moves outside of the country. Most recently, Malaysian beverage tea brand Tealive expanded into India in a move to bring its unique blend of tea and innovative beverage culture to the country.  In addition, the country presents a huge market potential for lifestyle tea amongst the young population and gives the brand a strategic advantage with its strong branding and Southeast Asian appeal.

Tealive's expansion into India also follows the brand's recent penetration into the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in October last year.
