Lightning International, APAC broadcasting content distribution and solutions company, has bolstered its leadership team with senior appointments, aiming to assist the company to realise its future growth.

Based in Singapore, Eric Tan, as Lightning’s director of content sales of Asia, will be responsible for all aspects of channel and content distribution, mainly for the Southeast Asia region.

Specialising in the telecommunications and broadcasting industries, Tan previously held positions at Singtel, Da Vinci Learning and Sony Pictures Entertainment Networks Asia among others.

David Newton joins Lightning as director of business strategy. Within his new role, he will manage Lightning’s business direction and growth strategy. Newton was formerly finance director with Reuters and the Financial Times, and later CFO at LexisNexis and Haymarket Media Asia.

Desmond Chung is named as Lightning’s head of marketing and communications to further amplify the voice of the company and to increase brand awareness.

A seasoned communications professional, Chung has worked with a range of companies including Turner, FOX, Genting Hong Kong and CASBAA.

These are newly created roles which aim to provide the dedicated and specialised leadership and experience to further expand Lightning’s business. They will all report to James Ross, CEO of Lightning International.

“We are delighted to welcome Tan, Newton and Chung into the Lightning family,” said Ross, “Their extensive experience in their respective fields, especially within the broadcasting and media industries, will be an asset for Lightning as we look to continue our growth trajectory in the future.”

Lightning International is a content solutions company based in the UK and Hong Kong. The company distributes a range of TV channels such as Action Hollywood Movies, Concerto TV, Docsville, GB News, Globetrotter, Kartoon Channel!, LFCTV, NewsWorld, NOW 70s, NOW 80s, NOW Rock, amongst others.

Back in June, the company was acquired by Asia Satellite Telecommunications (AsiaSat). The addition of Lightning to the AsiaSat family is a strategic move to expand the company’s services and extend its clients’ reach to global audiences through traditional and new distribution platforms including OTT and FAST.

Combining Lightning’s expertise in content distribution with AsiaSat's all-embracing satellite and IP-based distribution capabilities will enable both companies to deliver customised solutions including content aggregation and playout, channel distribution and affiliate management.
