CommBank chief marketing officer Jo Boundy is leaving the bank after four-and-a-half years to take on a broader business leadership role at experiential tourism group Journey Beyond.
Boundy will join Journey Beyond on 9 November as managing director, Resorts & Lodges, leading its newly expanded portfolio of accommodation assets including Ayers Rock Resort, Sal Salis, Monarto Safari Resort, Outback Spirit Lodges and the Kakadu Crocodile Hotel.
The move marks a return to tourism for the former Qantas CMO, but also a significant expansion of her remit beyond marketing and communications into general business leadership.
“After an amazing 4.5 year experience at the Commonwealth Bank, it’s time for a new adventure,” Boundy said.
“It’s an opportunity I’m incredibly excited about – to return to an industry I’ve long been passionate about and to broaden my experience beyond marketing and communications into general business leadership.”
Boundy joined CommBank in 2022 after more than a decade at Qantas, where her roles included group CMO and executive general manager of Qantas Hotels & Holidays.
Her departure comes after a significant period of change for CommBank's marketing operation. The bank appointed Howatson+Company as its external creative agency in June, recently unveiled a major overhaul of its CommBank Yello loyalty program and earlier this year signed on as the official bank of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Journey Beyond CEO Chris Tallent said Boundy's commercial and customer experience would be central to the next stage of growth for its accommodation portfolio.
“Her deep commercial and customer experience expertise, combined with her proven track record of driving growth and leading high-performing teams, make her exceptionally well placed to strengthen our portfolio, grow demand across our destinations, elevate our guest and employee experiences, and deliver long-term value across the division,” Tallent said.
