Local Indonesian television station JakTV has issued a public apology and launched an internal investigation after inappropriate content was broadcast during its programming on Monday morning, triggering concerns over broadcast security and content safeguards.

The incident quickly gained traction across social media platforms after viewers reported that JakTV's regular programming was unexpectedly interrupted by explicit material between approximately 8:00am and 9:30am WIB on 1 June.

According to reports shared online, the content appeared during what is typically considered family viewing hours, prompting criticism from audiences. Screenshots of the broadcast circulated on platforms including Threads and X, with some users speculating that the station's transmission may have been compromised.

In response, JakTV released an official statement apologising to viewers and stressing that the material did not originate from its editorial or programming teams.

"JakTV extends its deepest apologies to all viewers for the broadcast disruption that occurred on Monday, 1 June 2026, which resulted in the appearance of inappropriate material that did not meet JakTV's broadcasting standards," the broadcaster said.

The station acknowledged the distress caused by the incident, particularly among families and parents, adding that audience concerns remain its top priority. It said it immediately halted the affected transmission, secured its broadcast systems and initiated a comprehensive technical review to determine the cause of the disruption.

In a further update, JakTV confirmed that it has submitted an official report to the Metro Jaya regional police as investigations get underway. It has also notified both the ministry of communication and digital affairs and the Jakarta regional Indonesian broadcasting commission (KPID Jakarta) of the incident and the progress of its response.

The timing of the incident has also drawn additional attention, occurring on Indonesia's Pancasila Day, a national commemoration typically marked by educational and civic-focused programming.

"Since the incident was identified, JakTV has undertaken a number of response measures, including stopping the unauthorised broadcast, securing transmission systems, conducting inspections of related equipment and logs, and strengthening monitoring and incident response mechanisms," the station said.

"JakTV has temporarily suspended all broadcasting activities, both through terrestrial transmission and streaming channels, for an undetermined period. This measure is necessary to ensure that system inspections, recovery efforts, and security enhancements can be carried out comprehensively."
