IM3, Najwa Shihab rally against digital scams with AI-powered SATSPAM feature

In a country where 65% of people face scam attempts every week, IM3 is taking a visible stand against the surge of digital fraud. The brand, under Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH), has launched SATSPAM - an AI-powered, network-integrated feature designed to automatically detect and block scam and spam calls or messages.

The feature made its public debut not in a conference room, but on the streets. Alongside IOH leadership, hundreds of IM3’s signature yellow-uniformed staff, and members of the public, journalist Najwa Shihab joined the SATSPAM Parade during Jakarta’s Car Free Day in Thamrin. The march was a symbolic call to arms under the banner #NomorModusNoMore, aiming to educate people on the dangers of digital fraud while introducing SATSPAM as a ready-to-use safeguard.

Unlike security features that require manual setup or separate apps, SATSPAM activates automatically for IM3 customers with an active data package. It operates in real time across the IM3 network, flagging suspicious phone numbers and messages before they reach the user. Customers can also report dubious numbers via the myIM3 app, feeding back into the detection system.

For IM3, SATSPAM is a brand statement about safety and trust in the digital age. By embedding AI-driven protection into the network itself, the company is not just selling connectivity, but positioning itself as an advocate for digital security in a market where the stakes are rising fast.

“Through SATSPAM, IM3 takes a proactive step in ensuring safer digital experiences from the threat of spam and scam for Indonesians, as part of AIvolusi5G technology, a secure, intelligent network built with cutting-edge AI and responsive 5G technology from Indosat that is responsive, adaptive, and relevant,” said Bilal Kazmi, IOH’s director and chief commercial officer.

“SATSPAM is not merely a feature. It’s a tangible commitment to earning and maintaining public trust in an increasingly complex digital world, proving that the future of the digital world must start from an equitable sense of security for all. In line with the spirit of Indonesia’s Independence Day, SATSPAM represents freedom from digital scam threats, unlocking greater opportunities for people and encouraging the appropriate use of technology,” he added.

Najwa Shihab, who has long been vocal about media literacy and public awareness, underscored the urgency: “Digital scams are not just annoying, they are modern crimes that exploit trust and public vulnerability.” She noted that 64% of spam victims in Indonesia are targeted via calls or texts, with digital fraud causing IDR 476 billion (US$29 million) in losses between November 2024 and January 2025.

“These figures show that most people still lack proper protection. I fully support IM3’s launch of SATSPAM, not just as a new feature, but as a concrete form of social responsibility. Digital protection must be inclusive and accessible, so that safety becomes a right for everyone and a real step toward building digital literacy in Indonesia,” Shihab added.
