How LEGO and IKEA Malaysia are redesigning homes through play

How LEGO and IKEA Malaysia are redesigning homes through play

The LEGO Group has teamed up with IKEA Malaysia to bring a playful twist to home decor at The Exchange TRX. Running from 30 May to 8 June, the “LEGO home” activation transforms the mall’s Central Exchange space into an immersive house tour, where visitors can explore themed interiors styled by IKEA and decorated with signature LEGO brick builds.

The event invites shoppers to reimagine their living spaces with creativity and playfulness at the heart of it. In this three-way partnership, the home decorations are built and styled with LEGO bricks, while the space is furnished by IKEA Malaysia at the Central Exchange, ground floor space within the TRX mall.

Designed for everyone from new homeowners to decor enthusiasts, the event spans themed rooms such as the kitchen and gaming corners, and features curated LEGO sets across lines such as 'Botanical', 'Arts', 'Icons', and 'Architecture'. Visitors can scan QR codes throughout the space to learn more about the featured builds, take part in interactive activities such as "Make & take" stations, and snap keepsake photos with characters such as LEGO Space Benny and Bluey & Bingo, according to a release.

The event also spotlights exclusive fan-built creations including a LEGO brick mirror and chandelier, alongside social media-led redemption offers. Visitors who post about their experience using #MYLEGOHOME and #LEGOMY can unlock limited-edition sticker packs, vouchers, and collectible frames. To further engage fans, LEGO partnered with interior stylist Priscilla Tan (@StyledbyPT) to offer home styling tips inspired by different personality types using LEGO sets as decor centerpieces.

Beyond the event space, LEGO and IKEA Malaysia are also bringing the experience to shoppers at select IKEA showrooms. From June to August, curated LEGO home decor setups will be on display at IKEA Damansara, Batu Kawan, and Tebrau, showing how LEGO sets can be effortlessly styled into everyday living spaces for a playful yet practical touch.

“At IKEA, our vision has always been to create a better everyday life for the many people, and we believe that home is the most important place in the world. This partnership with the LEGO Group brings that vision to life in a truly joyful way," said Malcolm Pruys, retail director, IKEA Malaysia.

"By combining home furnishing with the endless possibilities of LEGO creativity, we’re making it easier for more people to express their personality and create spaces that feel uniquely theirs," he added.

A collaboration borne from a shared commitment

According to Ágnes Molnár, marketing director of Singapore, Malaysia and APAC travel retail, The LEGO Group, the brand's partnership with IKEA stems from the alignment of both their mission, vision and values. "At the heart of both brands is a shared commitment for togetherness and fun. As we stay true to our brand promise of bringing joy through LEGO play, our goal is to create meaningful connections with fans by inspiring creative expression at home," she told A+M.

As Danish-Swedish neighbours, the two brands have previously collaborated on the Bygglek storage boxes which were designed to fit LEGO bricks. Molnár shared that this campaign at TRX, was a step forward for further brand awareness together. For LEGO, this means driving more brand awareness to the adult segment.

"Although our mission is to inspire and develop the children through play, but we strive to consistently deliver experiences to all ages, that embody the spirit of the LEGO brand. We are also encouraging adults to spend quality time with LEGO sets designed specifically for them," she added.

When asked by A+M if the campaign signalled a deeper move by LEGO into the lifestyle or home categories, Molnár said that the group currently has a broad lineup of sets which are ideal for any occassion and age. "That being said, our portfolio is ever evolving, we are continuously trying to innovate in our product design to cater for a broad range of interests. Home and decor will continue to be an exciting space for us to tap into."

LEGO is no stranger to collaborations with other brands, and IPs. Earlier in May, Nike and the LEGO Group teamed up for a global multi-year partnership launching this summer, combining sport and creativity to inspire kids through immersive experiences and co-branded products. Some months ago, The LEGO Group and The Pokémon Company International also announced a new multi-year partnership that will bring LEGO Pokémon to fans for the first time from 2026.

As seen on The LEGO Group's social accounts, the Danish toy manufacturing company has also created sets for Japanese anime ONE PIECE, American animated TV series the Simpsons, as well as Universal Studio's How to Train Your Dragon and Marvel's Iron Man just to name a few.
