How 'Fulfilled by Shopee' is giving Philippine MSMEs more time to grow

As more Philippine MSMEs expand their online operations, logistics is emerging as a critical factor in sustaining growth. While increasing order volumes can signal business success, they also bring added pressure on sellers to manage storage, packing, shipping, and returns - tasks that can consume time otherwise spent on product development, marketing, and customer engagement.

To address these challenges, Shopee is positioning Fulfilled by Shopee (FBS) as a solution that enables merchants to outsource fulfilment operations while maintaining a reliable customer experience.

The service manages the end-to-end fulfilment process, including inventory storage, order packing, shipping, and returns processing. By taking over operational tasks, Shopee aims to help sellers focus on scaling their businesses while meeting growing consumer expectations around delivery speed and service consistency.

"As sellers grow and start receiving more orders, they need consistent support across packing, shipping, inventory movement, and returns. FBS is built to close that gap, helping sellers build the capacity to scale while giving buyers a reliable shopping experience," said Jack Ng, head of commercial, Shopee Philippines.

The need for fulfilment support is becoming more apparent as eCommerce demand expands beyond major urban centres. According to Shopee, 83% of FBS buyers are located outside Metro Manila, reflecting the increasing importance of serving customers across the country's regions.

To support nationwide demand, FBS allows sellers to store inventory within Shopee-operated facilities across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. By positioning products closer to buyers, the platform seeks to shorten delivery timelines and reduce some of the logistical challenges associated with serving geographically dispersed markets.

Shopee said orders fulfilled through FBS are typically delivered within three to five working days, compared with seven to ten working days for non-FBS sellers.

For Davao-based entrepreneur Em Uy-Taclibon, owner of Filipino-Made Cast Iron, fulfilment had become one of the biggest operational hurdles as her business grew. The one-woman operation sources cast iron cookware from Cebu and previously relied on manual inventory management, packing, and shipment coordination.

"Promoting the products, recording everything in inventory - it all takes up a lot of time, and when orders start increasing, I'm still the one packing them," she said. "My products are heavy, so packing each one can take almost 15 minutes. That's when I realised I really needed help."

Since adopting FBS, Uy-Taclibon's inventory has been stored at Shopee's Davao warehouse, with orders packed and shipped through the platform's fulfilment network.

"Even when I'm on holiday, my stock is stored at Shopee's Davao warehouse, and orders continue to be processed," she added. "That's been a huge help because it allows me to focus more on growing the business."

The shift has allowed her to redirect time towards sourcing new products, live selling, and creating content to promote her business.

The development highlights how fulfilment infrastructure is increasingly becoming a competitive differentiator. As consumer expectations continue to rise and demand becomes more geographically distributed, logistics capabilities can play a significant role in enabling smaller businesses to compete alongside larger retailers.
