To commemorate its 25th anniversary, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) is rolling out its first-ever HKEX "Gong Tour", which will see the iconic HKEX Gong touring across Hong Kong in the specially outfitted "Gongmobile", between 20 June and 3 July.
The "Gongmobile" will visit nine locations across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories, offering a unique opportunity for the public to engage with the vibrant history and dynamism of Hong Kong’s financial markets.
The "Gongmobile" provides the public an opportunity to experience what it was like in HKEX’s trading hall and in listing ceremonies, as well as to learn about the development of Hong Kong’s financial markets through a mobile exhibition.
The "Gongmobile" tour also comes with a video teaser, featuring a very special host taking the helm, setting the stage for a vibrant celebration and inviting viewers to join this citywide event that offers a close-up look of the HKEX Gong.
The "Gongmobile" will showcase the iconic HKEX Gong and other exhibits normally displayed in the HKEX Museum of Finance. Visitors will have the chance to take photographs with the actual HKEX Gong that’s used in official listing ceremonies - an experience generally reserved for issuers, sponsors, and intermediaries.
Visitors can also immerse themselves in Hong Kong's rich financial heritage by donning the iconic red vests worn by floor traders and exploring a curated collection of archives, photographs, and video footage.
Additionally, the "Gongmobile" experience will feature an HKEX-themed interactive game designed to test participants' knowledge of Hong Kong's equities market.
Over the past 25 years and beyond, HKEX and its markets have facilitated the successful listing of many local, regional and international companies in Hong Kong, building the market’s total issuer count to over 2,600 today.
From the landmark listing of Tsingtao Brewery in 1993, the first H share sale, to the largest IPO in Hong Kong’s market – AIA Group’s HK$159.08 billion deal in 2010 – Hong Kong’s stock market has been at the forefront as an international listing and capital raising hub. Last month, one of the world’s largest battery makers for electric vehicles listed on HKEX, raising HK$41 billion, demonstrating the breadth and depth of Hong Kong’s markets.
The Strike the Gong ceremony has become an internationally-recognised symbol of a company’s success. Each strike signifies the commencement of a new chapter for issuers, offers new opportunities for investors, and highlights the dynamism of Hong Kong’s markets. Since its introduction in 2011, the HKEX Gong has consistently marked important milestones for prospective companies, standing witness to the market's progress.
