HK sees over 1.27m passenger trips during Lunar New Year

Hong Kong has seen over 1,270,000 passenger trips over the just concluded three-day Lunar New Year holiday, including more than 353,000 outbound residents.

According to the official figures from Immigration Department, a total of 1,273,533 passenger trips were recorded through various control points yesterday. This includes 588,296 outbound individuals, comprising 353,670 Hong Kong residents and 234,626 visitors. 

On the inbound side, 685,237 arrivals were recorded, including 446,072 Hong Kong residents and 239,165 visitors. Among all control points, Lo Wu recorded the highest traffic with 122,361 passenger trips, with 91,999 Hong Kong residents and 30,108 mainland visitors. It is followed by Shenzhen Bay with 198,453 trips, consisting of 79,864 Hong Kong residents and 28,270 mainland visitors.

On the outbound side, there were 588,296 departures, comprising 353,670 Hong Kong residents and 234,626 visitors. Among all control points, Lo Wu recorded the highest traffic with 101,601 passenger trips, including 64,062 Hong Kong residents and 36,466 mainland visitors. Following closely was the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, which saw 96,035 trips, consisting of 57,771 Hong Kong residents and 31,107 mainland visitors.

Earlier, the Immigration Department earlier projected 11.38 million passenger trips from 14 to 23 February, with outbound peaks expected on 14 February and inbound peaks on 22 February.

To celebrate the Year of the Horse, the Hong Kong authorities have planned a series of festive celebrations in the city. On Wednesday (18 February), the 2026 Chinese New Year Fireworks Display illuminated the sky, celebrating the festival with the public and visitors in Hong Kong. Coordinated by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau and sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the event featured a 23-minute show, culminating in the discharge of 31,888 fireworks. Over 360,000 people attended the display on both sides of Victoria Harbour.

Furthermore, tens of thousands of Hong Kong residents and tourists lined the streets of Tsim Sha Tsui on Tuesday (17 February) evening for the city’s annual Lunar New Year float parade. Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, this year’s theme was “Best fortune. World party,” featuring 12 floats and nearly 60 performing groups that engaged with spectators along the route.
