Hong Kong is set to see a surge in cross-border travel during the upcoming National Day Golden Week, with nearly 8.8 million trips estimated by the Immigration Department (ImmD).

This follows the consultation with the Shenzhen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection and other mainland authorities, estimating that around 7.52 million passengers will pass through land boundary control points.

The number of outbound and inbound passengers using land boundary control points will be relatively higher this Saturday (4 October) and next Wednesday (1 October), with around 660,000 passengers and 610,000 passengers respectively.

The ImmD has estimated that the passenger traffic at the Lo Wu control point, the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line control point and the Shenzhen Bay control point will be heavy, with a daily average forecast of about 240,000, 220,000 and 140,000 passengers respectively.

In celebration of National Day on 1 October, the National Day fireworks display will light up the sky over Victoria Harbour at 8pm. This event is coordinated by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau and sponsored by the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce. The theme for this year's fireworks display is "Victoria Harbour fireworks shine across the motherland". The display will be divided into eight scenes, each with its own characteristics. More than 30,000 firing shells will be discharged in an approximately 23-minute event.
