Donald Tong and Jim Yan, members of Hong Kong boy band I Love You Boyz, have apologised to local DJ Yue Dik Wai for showing an image of him in a public concert without consent.

This comes as Yue said on his Instagram on 9 February, that the duo showed his topless image at a concert publicly, without getting his consent. Yue accused the duo of sexual orientation discrimination and workplace bullying.

A day later Tong and Yan posted on their personal Instagram respectively, apologising for offending Yue and promised to amend the upcoming agenda of their show, as well as taking others’ feelings seriously.

The incident has drawn mixed reactions as some netizens said that they thought Yue already gets used to the teasing by I Love You Boyz, while some said it is unethical to put up Yue’s photo on the stage without the presence of Yue.

Yue’s updates have always been covered on I Love You Boyz’s weekly radio programme, the boy band often created headlines and programme names based on Yue’s sexual orientation and personal interests.

Yue is a Canadian-born Hong Kong DJ. He currently works at Commercial Radio. His Instagram has garnered 53.3k followers and he is also known as a pro-LGBTQ+ artist.

Separately, local artist and opera singer Law Kar Ying apologised for his remarks on mourning following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II back in last September. This comes as Law posted a selfie on Instagram while he was queuing to pay tribute, and sign a condolence book for the late monarch who recently passed.

The post read, “When she ascended the throne, I was seven years old. For the past seventy years, the Queen has been my elderly and watching me grow old. Hong Kong was a blessed land during her reign. How many more elderly people are there? This bouquet of flowers, my sincere condolences, will last forever.”
