Great Wall Motors has rolled out its Tank 500 Plug-in Hybrid in Australia under a new brand platform, Be More Tank. Created by Thinkerbell, the launch builds on the Chinese automaker’s Go With More promise and continues a series of new model launches in 2025.
‘Be More Tank’ positions the Tank 500 Plug-in Hybrid as both a vehicle and an attitude, aiming to reignite Australia and New Zealand’s appetite for outdoor adventure.
As part of the launch, GWM is activating its community-led Tank Clubs across social platforms, encouraging members to share user-generated content that captures a “more Tank-ish” approach to life. Selected clips will be edited into the campaign’s hero film.
“In the Tank 500 Plug-in Hybrid, you can get out there and be more Tank thanks to the global tech innovation of our Hybrid Intelligent 4WD (Hi4T) system, which sets a new benchmark in performance for electrified off-roaders,” Steve Maciver, head of marketing and communications at GWM, said.
Sean McNicholas, head tinker at Thinkerbell, said: “We’re not just launching a machine, but a mantra that can be whispered to yourself and shouted at others when it’s time to stand up and have a crack at the next adventure.”
The campaign, which runs across TV, digital screens, BVOD and out-of-home, comes amid a surge in Chinese automotive brands in Australia.
According to VFACTS data for August 2025, Chinese marques BYD, GWM, MG and Chery entered the top 10 for the first time, collectively selling 20,070 vehicles - a 67% year-on-year increase.
BYD led the charge with 4,877 units sold, up 141.3% from the previous year.
