Grab hires new managing director for Malaysia

Grab Malaysia has appointed Adelene Foo as managing director. In her role, Foo will oversee the business strategy and operations of Grab’s businesses in Malaysia. Having worked at Grab for a decade, Foo previously helmed the role of country head in Malaysia from 2012 to 2014. She then moved on to regional roles, most recently the regional head of merchants and regional head of GrabExpress as well as newly appointed CEO of Jaya Grocer. She succeeds Sean Goh, who assumes the position of regional head of deliveries and mobility.

Prior to her time at Grab, Foo was consultant at Accenture Management Consulting. According to her LinkedIn, her array of duties included service analytics strategic consulting, multi-channel customer strategy, customer analytics and segmentation, campaign management and business strategy.

With her past experience in setting up the local team and meeting daily needs of people in Malaysia, Foo will help to continue to grow the mobility, deliveries, on-demand groceries as well as accelerate the growth of the GrabFin to continue to become the stronger service player in Malaysia.

Foo shared her excitement in being tasked to lead the Malaysian team and said that the team has made impressive strides over the years as seen by their leading status in the superapp arena. “Grab is committed to the long-term development of Malaysia. I look forward to working with the team to focus on introducing more affordable access to the best of our platform, create more earning opportunities for our partners, help more micro-entrepreneurs digitise and grow, and train more talent to support Malaysia’s growth in the digital economy,” she added.

With her keen understanding of local conditions, Grab services are to target Grab services that truly address users’ needs. Russell Cohen, group managing director of operations at Grab said that Grab has tremendously evolved in the past decade, especially with new services and features on its superapp. “Adelene’s proven credentials and entrepreneurial spirit in scaling and growing Grab across Southeast Asia fits perfectly for this next phase of growth for Grab in Malaysia and I’m so excited to welcome her back to the country leadership team," he added.

Across the shore, Grab Singapore hired member of parliament, Tin Pei Ling as its director of Public Affairs and Policy. The spokesperson added that Tin has deep on-ground understanding of digital economy and smart nation policy, and close ties with the local community. “She will build partnerships and programmes to harness the positive potential of technology to create impact in Singapore,” he said.
