GoTo and Grab to cut ride-hailing commissions to 8% from 1 July

GoTo Group and Grab Indonesia have confirmed that an 8% commission rate for motorcycle ride-hailing services will take effect from 1 July 2026, marking a significant policy shift aimed at improving driver welfare in Indonesia.
The announcement was made following a meeting between executives from both companies and deputy speakers of Indonesia's House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and Cucun Ahmad Syamsurizal, at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta.
The move follows a directive issued by President Prabowo Subianto in May, which called for measures to improve the welfare of online transportation drivers by capping platform commissions at 8% and ensuring drivers receive at least 92% of fares. This replaces the previous 80:20 commission structure.

The change marks one of the most significant developments in Indonesia's ride-hailing sector in recent years, reflecting growing government involvement in platform economics and increasing scrutiny of how digital platforms distribute value among ecosystem participants.
Speaking after the meeting, Catherine Hindra Sutjahyo, deputy CEO of GoTo, confirmed that the revised commission structure for GoRide would be implemented next week.
Grab Indonesia CEO Neneng Goenadi also confirmed that it would adopt the same commission rate for its two-wheel ride-hailing service, GrabBike.
The decision has been welcomed by lawmakers, who have long advocated for lower commission deductions for ride-hailing drivers.
Ahmad described the policy as one that drivers had awaited for years. "The House of Representatives remains committed to supporting the long-standing aspirations of ride-hailing drivers," he said.
Syamsurizal also praised the agreement, noting that the commission reduction was the result of a lengthy process involving multiple stakeholders.
GoTo released a statement, acknowledging that the new revenue-sharing structure would create challenges for its two-wheel transport operations and would require careful management to balance driver earnings, consumer affordability, and the long-term health of the ecosystem.
"Gojek will continue to coordinate with the government and relevant stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of the policy and to maximise its benefits for driver partners while maintaining a sustainable ecosystem for all parties," the firm said.
