Four Pillars goes proudly human as AI floods the creative feed

Four Pillars Gin is leaning into human craft for its new long-term masterbrand platform, deliberately rejecting AI-generated creative as it looks to build the brand beyond individual products.
Created by independent agency Weave, Expect Different rolls out nationally this month across out-of-home, social and digital, marking a shift towards an overarching brand proposition for the Australian gin maker.
Rather than generating its campaign world with AI, Four Pillars and Weave built physical sets, choreographed stagehands and shot the hero film using theatrical transitions within a single unbroken camera shot.
Weave executive creative director Dan Cookson said the production decision was deliberate as AI-generated imagery becomes increasingly commonplace.
“At a time when our social feeds are increasingly filled with AI-generated content, we wanted to make a campaign film that was proudly real,” Cookson said.
“So, we built sets, choreographed stagehands and created a series of theatrical transitions all cued within a single, unbroken camera shot.”
Cookson said the additional complexity was part of the point.
“It makes the whole thing much harder to pull off, but that’s also its creative charm. You can feel the human craft in how it all comes together, which felt completely right for Four Pillars, a brand that has always cared deeply about how things are actually made.”
The 15-second hero film takes the familiar ritual of finishing work and having a drink and turns it into a stylised theatrical production, with stagehands transforming the scene using physical sets, in-camera transitions and live performance.
The campaign also represents a broader change in Four Pillars' marketing strategy.
Lion marketing manager, spirits Amanda Bronesky said much of the brand's previous communications had centred around individual products, with Expect Different designed to provide a platform capable of stretching across the portfolio.
“Four Pillars has always challenged convention through flavour innovation and creativity, but until now much of our communications have centred on individual products,” Bronesky said.
“‘Expect Different’ gives us a long-term masterbrand platform that expresses everything Four Pillars stands for.”
The campaign includes 15 and six-second assets across YouTube and Meta alongside a national OOH rollout running through February 2027.
Production was handled by Hart & Co, with Nicky Murphy directing.
