Esprit stages powerful HK comeback in Causeway Bay

Hong Kong-based fashion label Esprit is making a powerful comeback with a new flagship store in Causeway Bay, following the shutdown of all stores across Asia in 2020. 

Amid shifting market dynamics, Esprit underwent extensive strategic restructuring and made the difficult decision to close its physical presence across Asia four years ago, a move that disappointed many loyal customers.

Now, the brand is re-entering the Hong Kong market with a renewed vision to lead fashion trends and integrate itself into the lifestyle of a new generation. The new flagship store in Causeway Bay will be available in November.

With a legacy defined by iconic cultural moments, Esprit has already left an indelible mark on a generation of consumers — and its return is reigniting passion and excitement for homegrown Hong Kong fashion.

The revival has been teased through a series of evocative visuals across the brand’s Hong Kong social media channels, including Instagram and Facebook, as confirmed by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE.

 

Despite its high-profile return to the Hong Kong market, Esprit has projected another annual loss, citing its subsidiaries' insolvency in Europe and the US alongside a difficult macroeconomic climate.

The fashion retailer anticipates an unaudited net loss of HK$1.172 billion (US$150 million) for the past year—a significant improvement from the HK$2.339 billion loss a year prior, yet still accompanied by a severe 73% plunge in revenue and a 76% drop in gross profit.

Back in 2023, Esprit decided to return to North America as it signed a lease with Hudson Square Properties in New York City for what became the company's new global creative headquarters. 

The new global creative headquarters signaled the brand's return to the US, where Esprit was originally founded in 1968. The move represented the modernisation of Esprit's California-cool roots into a metropolitan brand that is designed, created, and photographed in New York City.

While the creative headquarters are in New York, the operational headquarters remain in Hong Kong, reinforcing the vision for a global brand known for its innovation and collaboration, and a recommitment to the brand's original key pillars – design, quality, and fit.
