Indigenous-owned Cooee Native Foods has partnered with JCDecaux on a digital out-of-home campaign for NAIDOC Week.

The campaign is running across JCDecaux’s digital network in Sydney and Melbourne, celebrating First Nations culture, native foods and this year’s NAIDOC Week theme, 50 Years of Deadly.

It also follows Cooee Native Foods’ acquisition of the 25-year-old Creative Native Foods brand, bringing it into Indigenous ownership for the first time.

Cooee said the acquisition would help expand opportunities for First Nations growers and producers while bringing the stories behind native ingredients to a wider audience.

Terri-Ann Daniel, founder and CEO of Cooee Native Foods, said NAIDOC Week was a moment to recognise the cultural knowledge carried through native foods.

“NAIDOC Week is a time to honour culture and recognise the knowledge that has sustained our communities for thousands of years,” Daniel said.

“Native foods carry stories of Country, kinship and care for the land. Sharing these ingredients with more Australians helps grow understanding while creating opportunities for Indigenous enterprise to thrive.”

As part of the partnership, Daniel also joined JCDecaux employees for a national conversation about native foods, Indigenous-owned business and cultural and economic outcomes.
