Cignal enters next chapter with logo revamp, new streaming strategy

Cignal has marked its 16th year in the Philippine media industry with a brand refresh and a series of updates across its platform ecosystem. The company unveiled a new logo, aligning with its positioning as a dynamic multimedia powerhouse and reflecting its shift from a traditional payTV provider toward a broader content distribution strategy.

The rebrand comes as the company expands its portfolio to include a range of digital services. These include mobile-first storytelling formats, sports streaming, and a new aggregation platform. The updated visual identity forms part of a wider effort to align Cignal’s operations with changes in consumption behaviour across Filipino audiences.

“Our new logo conveys our continuing evolution,” said Jane Jimenez-Basas, president and CEO of Cignal TV, as quoted by Manila Bulletin. “We will continue to innovate and deliver the best content for our beloved subscribers across all our platforms. These are exciting times for us at Cignal, and for the people we serve - especially in more years to come.”

Cignal Play, the company’s over-the-top (OTT) service, was among the first in the Philippines to deliver linear television to mobile devices. The platform has since developed into a library of live and on-demand content, including vertically oriented microdramas under the Cignal Originals banner. These formats cater to mobile-native viewers and respond to trends in short-form storytelling.

In the sports category, Cignal operates Pilipinas Live, a dedicated streaming platform offering live and on-demand coverage of major local and international sporting events. The service includes access to leagues such as the NBA, PBA, and UAAP, as well as additional features such as game previews. The app also hosts Pilipinas Live Shorts, a content segment focused on athlete profiles and community building.

The company also recently launched Cignal Super, which is described as the Philippines’ first streaming aggregator. The platform offers a single subscription and login interface for content from providers including HBO MAX, Viu, Lionsgate Play, Hallmark+, Curiosity Stream, Fuse+, alongside Cignal Play and Pilipinas Live.

Despite the digital expansion, payTV remains a key component of Cignal’s distribution model. The company continues to offer nationwide access to content through direct-to-home (DTH) satellite service. In addition, its partnership with PLDT enables content delivery via fibre/IP infrastructure, enhancing accessibility nationwide.

In June, Curiosity Stream joined Cignal Super through a licensing agreement, bringing its original and curated factual content - films, series, and specials - into a unified platform tailored for modern viewers. The partnership enables flexible access to both global and local programming through a single app and sign-on.

Quickplay is powering Cignal’s new Pilipinas Live Shorts service with its recently launched Quickplay Shorts product, enabling the creation, clipping, and verticalisation of short-form content from live and VOD sources. The tool supports infinite vertical scroll and social-style user experiences, while also allowing influencers and athletes to create and publish user-generated content within the platform.

Backed by Quickplay’s moderation and plug-in SDK, the integration gives Cignal greater access to audience data for engagement and retention strategies. According to Quickplay, this partnership aligns with shifting Gen Z habits toward short-form and social-discovered content, offering broadcasters new opportunities for reach, daily engagement, and monetisation.
