Cathay Pacific showcases authentic passenger stories in new TikTok campaign

Cathay Pacific has launched a social-led TikTok campaign titled “OMG, I’ve got to tell you about my flight,” ditching conventional airline marketing to spotlight genuine passenger experiences across the platform.

Launched in partnership with Australian agency Kill Boring Dead, the campaign marks a shift away from traditional airline advertising, leaning instead into creator-led storytelling designed to feel native to TikTok.

The social-led campaign taps into a simple insight that when a flight experience exceeds expectations, people instinctively want to tell someone about it immediately.

Rather than relying on polished brand messaging or scripted talent, the work features nano creators and real Cathay Pacific travellers sharing authentic, first-person reactions via TikTok-native formats including FaceTime-style conversations, post-flight debriefs, direct-to-camera testimonials and at-home recaps.

“We know younger travellers are incredibly discerning when it comes to the content they engage with, particularly on platforms like TikTok,” Kelly Arnison, travel marketing manager, Oceania at Cathay Pacific, said.

KBD Co-Founder and CEO, Marcus Willis said the campaign reflected a growing appetite for social creative that behaves more like culture than advertising.

The new work adds to a raft of campaigns for Cathay in 2026 as it celebrates its 80th anniversary. Earlier this year Cathay brought four iconic aircraft liveries to life on Hong Kong’s trams, transporting these designs from airport runways onto the city’s streets.

The designs include the silver fuselage of the classic Douglas DC-3, affectionately nicknamed Betsy; the inaugural green-and-white livery of the Convair 880; the legendary lettuce leaf sandwich pattern and the contemporary brushwing logo.
