WPP ad agency BATES, has established a leadership council that consists of Ira Alamsyah, Satriono (Oni) Kartodimedjo, and Karthik Narayan. BATES also has a new identity which it claims is centered on its core driver of growth orchestration of its client’s business. With a focus on strategic precision, creative persuasion and operational acumen, BATES is looking to deploy its full-funnel offerings to building brands with a strong and proud Indonesian footprint.

Alamsyah (pictured centre), a veteran Indonesian leader, has been elevated to managing partner of BATES. Armed with over 20 years of experience driving growth for local and multinational brands, Alamsyah has an eye for effectiveness in the workplace and prides herself on building agile systems and mentoring strong functioning teams. “BATES continues to be a creative tribe that reinvents itself to be relevant to the times and to the market. Over the past decade, I've had the fortune of playing my part in building this gem of a tribe. I’m looking forward to partnering with Kartodimedjo and Narayan in driving the next chapter of vertical and horizontal growth for the BATES tribe,” said Alamsyah.

Meanwhile, Kartodimedjo (pictured left) brings more than 20 years of significant creative work across categories in Indonesian advertising. A champion of strategically focused creative craft, Kartodimedjo’s work has influenced the dynamics of the industry and the cultural landscape of the nation. BATES has always been focused on strong, brave work that has its roots in social observations. Its next chapter too will be defined by the creative philosophy of matching depth with simplicity to create evocative work across the funnel, said Kartodimedjo, executive creative director, BATES. “The pressure test will be in the problems that we solve for our brands and we’re ready for the challenge.”

Head of strategy, Narayan (pictured right), comes with more than 12 years of experience, most of which was spent in Ogilvy Mumbai before joining BATES in Indonesia. Narayan has delivered growth across categories and functions, through brand planning, digital and consulting. Getting to lead BATES is a humbling opportunity but also a very potent one, according to Narayan . In Alamsyah and Kartodimedjo, he has partners who are possibly the most accomplished Indonesian leaders in the industry and more importantly, partners who are hungry for new, brave work that drives growth. “With growth capabilities looking strong and a hungry team, the future looks good,” Narayan added.

"I could not be prouder of the accomplishments of BATES in the last couple of years. The talent, can-do attitude and resilience of our people were rays of light during the dark times of the pandemic. We partnered even closer with our clients and realised growth for many of our brands. With Alamsyah, Kartodimedjo and Narayan, comes the perfect blend of leadership that will help realise new growth opportunities for our client’s business and the BATES tribe will continue to thrive,” said Sieg Penaverde, the group CEO of Ogilvy Indonesia.

On a leadership front, Bates CHI & Partners appointed Sieg Penaverde as the CEO of its ASEAN office based in Jakarta, Indonesia, in July 2019. A quick check by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE revealed that Penaverde still currently holds the CEO position.
