AllDay halves store network as Villar retail retreat continues

AllDay Marts has halved its store network in nine months, while fellow Villar Group retailer AllHome has closed more than a quarter of its locations, as the Philippine retailers shift towards cost discipline and profitability over expansion.

In separate disclosures, AllDay and AllHome confirmed that their store networks had contracted to 13 and 34 locations, respectively, as of the end of September, down from 26 and 47 at the end of 2025.

The closures mark a significant pullback for the two retailers, which are refocusing their operations amid changing market conditions. The disclosures followed requests from the Philippine Stock Exchange for further details on their store networks, according to local media.

AllHome said its store rationalisation policy was intended to improve profitability and operational efficiency while aligning its footprint with changing market conditions.

The retailer added that its remaining locations continued to operate, with operations realigned according to sales throughput, customer traffic and operational requirements.

Its strategy centres on resizing stores, improving store-level economics, reducing excess costs and tightening working capital and liquidity management. AllHome said it was prioritising “maximising the value of its existing footprint, rather than expansion” as it works to restore sustainable profitability.

AllDay is pursuing a similar approach, with a sharper reduction in its physical footprint. The supermarket operator said it remained committed to its core grocery retail business, despite the reduction in its store network.

It also plans to optimise supermarket operations by selectively adopting smaller mini-mart formats, alongside store rationalisation, cost reductions and tighter working capital and cash management.

The store closures form part of a broader restructuring of the Villar Group's retail operations, which has included asset sales and other cash-raising measures following years of expansion around its property business.

While the latest disclosures provide a clearer picture of the retailers' reduced physical footprints, investors are still waiting for updated financial statements to assess how the businesses are performing under their smaller operating models.
