Malaysian minimart operator 99 Speed Mart has officially entered the Chinese market, marking a significant milestone in the company’s regional expansion.
In an announcement on its Instagram page, the company said that the first store opened on 31 August 2025 in Zhaixianyuan, Fuzhou, China, heralding a new chapter in the retailer’s journey.

"The move reflects 99 Speed Mart’s commitment to growing its mini-market network while continuing to offer everyday essentials at affordable prices," the brand said.
It also expressed its gratitude to customers, business partners, and employees for their ongoing support in helping 99 Speed Mart reach this milestone.
Earlier, the public listed company announced in its Bursa filing on Tuesday (2 Sept) that: "The company will also set up prototype outlets with plans to progressively expand within Fuzhou. The establishment of the store is not expected to have a material impact on the group’s earnings or net assets for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2025."
However, the company did not disclose its investment size. According the Edge, the announcement came after local Chinese media reports about the company’s store opening in Fujian province, which stated that the new operations in China will be wholly-owned by 99 Speed Mart.
Founded in 1987 by Mr. Lee Thiam Wah as a small sundry store in Klang, 99 Speedmart has grown into one of Malaysia’s largest convenience grocery chains. The brand adopted the 99 Speedmart name in 2000, expanding rapidly with modern store layouts, multiple distribution centres, and e-commerce platforms like 99 Bulksales. Known for affordable daily essentials and innovative logistics, the chain has earned national recognition and is now taking its first steps into the Chinese market.
