Media Prima makes slew of hires including former Posterscope CEO

Media Prima has appointed Johan Ishak as its CEO of Media Prima Television Networks (MPTN), effective 2 October 2017.As CEO, he will be responsible for the overall operations of MPTN and will focus on strengthening its core businesses, while pursuing new business opportunities in line with Media Prima’s long-term growth strategies. Ishak will oversee Media Prima’s TV3, ntv7, 8TV, TV9, tonton and the home-shopping business CJ Wow Shop.He reports to Media Prima’s group managing director Datuk Kamal Khalid.Before MPTN, Ishak was the CEO of MyCreative Ventures since 2012, a government investment arm for the promotion and entrepreneurship of the Malaysian creative industry. During his tenure at MyCreative Ventures, Ishak also became a founding member of industry think-tank Cultural Economy Development Agency (CENDANA). He was formerly general manager of Media Prima's group finance department from 2009 to 2012.Meanwhile, ad veteran Fan Chen Yip has joined Media Prima as head of key account management and media sales planning. He will be responsible for driving the group’s key sales strategies to ensure sustainable revenue growth, and will provide leadership and strategic direction for the group’s sales operations. He will also report to Khalid.Read also: Dentsu Aegis Network Malaysia hosts all its brands under one roofBefore Media Prima, Fan was the CEO of Posterscope Malaysia, a subsidiary of Dentsu Aegis Network (DAN). Prior to that, he was appointed as trading director for DAN in 2012. He started his career in advertising as trainee media planner in Bates (formerly known as Backer Spievogel Bates) in 1991, and was transferred to Zenith Media Services. In 2004, he became the business director at Universal McCann before pursuing his career with Carat Media Services as its general manager. Fan has been a council member at the Malaysian Media Specialist Association since 2016.The group also appointed Alfian Talib as chief commercial officer of The New Straits Times Press (NSTP), effective 15 September. In his new role, Talib will oversee the marketing, advertising sales and newspaper sales and distribution departments, ensuring growth in all three commercial sections of the company. He reports to the CEO of NSTP.Before NSTP, Talib was CEO of TM Info-Media. He joined the TM group in 2009 as assistant general manager of business strategy for SME, climbing up the ranks to become the GM for business strategy and channel program management. He has 20 years of experience in strategy, marketing planning and operational improvements primarily in the service and technology industries. Khalid said Ishak will bring a wealth of knowledge to lead MPTN while continuing to provide the best content to its audience.“Ishak will continue MPTN’s digital transformation efforts in line with the group’s vision to become the leading digital-first content and commerce company,” Khalid said.He added that both Fan and Talib possess the right experience in key industries which will be invaluable in helping Media Prima deliver media advertising solution to clients wishing to take advantage of the group’s integrated media platforms.“We are pleased to have them join our senior leadership team where their knowledge and industry familiarity will help Media Prima achieve our sales objectives,” Khalid added.
