McDonald’s MY jumps on board SEA Games sponsorship opportunities

McDonald’s Malaysia has come on board as one of the sponsors of the 29th SEA Games and the 9th ASEAN Para Games (Kuala Lumpur 2017 – KL2017).

The restaurant chain is also the official restaurant of the event. However, this sponsorship is not out of the ordinary, as McDonald’s has previously sponsored a few editions of the Olympic Games.

YB Brig Gen Khairy, minister of youth and sports and chairman of the Malaysian Organising Committee (MASOC) said that the restaurant is indeed close to all Malaysians. “The influence of the brand is so strong that it has become part of the citizens’ lifestyle,” he said.

“I believe that this sponsorship will not only allow McDonald’s to further strengthen its branding in the Southeast Asia region, but to utilise this strength to unite Malaysians just as it does through its food products,” he added.

This is not the first partnership MASOC has bagged. Recently, AirAsia also partnered the Malaysian Organising Committee (MASOC) of KL2017 as a gold sponsor.

KL2017 will take place on 19 to 31 August 2017 for the 29th SEA Games and 17 to 23 September 2017 for the 9th ASEAN Para Games.
