Damien Cummings parts ways with Standard Chartered, starts new HR venture

The global head of digital marketing at Standard Chartered, Damien Cummings (pictured) has parted ways with Standard Chartered.

In a blog post, Cummings said: “2016 ended poorly. After joining a Bank (something I promised myself I would never do) because of a number of seemingly-too-good-to-be-true promises during the interview process these promises turned out, surprisingly, to be too-good-to-be-true. So in January my role was made redundant (again!). ”

Based out of Singapore, he first joined the company in June 2015, and was reporting directly to Sanjeeb Chaudhuri, group head of brand and chief marketing officer.  In this role, Cummings was be responsible for providing digital and mobile marketing thought leadership as well as strategy formulation and execution. He worked with business partners to achieve StanChart’s business aspirations across the bank.

With over 22 years of experience in digital and marketing transformation, Cumming was previously responsible for brand, communications and digital marketing across Philips Consumer Lifestyle, Philips Lighting and Philips Healthcare.

His last role was as regional digital and social media lead at Philips ASEAN & Pacific, reporting directly to CEO of Philips ASEAN & Pacific, Harjit Gill. Meanwhile, Cumming’s role at Samsung in 2013 as regional digital and social media lead also was made redundant due to restructure.

Going forward, Cummings will be making a move into the world of HR Tech with his new venture Peoplewave. The venture is new start-up focused on revolutionising people management with data-driven, transparent feedback. The HR industry is ripe for digital disruption – Peoplewave is that catalyst.

“The job layoff is only fuel for a new fire that has been lit inside me. I made the decision, based on it being now or never, to jump into my own business. This fire is about changing things. Making the world better. Helping people in the workforce overcome incompetent managers and apathetic HR teams. I’m on day one of a new adventure – to reinvent HR and people management in the workforce through data-driven transparency and a new way of hiring, managing and engaging employees. HR has been ripe for disruption for a while. My new business, Peoplewave, is that catalyst,” he added.
