CIMB Group names new CEO for Islamic Bank arm

CIMB Group has appointed Mohamed Rafe bin Mohamed Haneef as CEO/ executive director of CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad and CEO of Group Islamic Banking Division.

He was previously CEO of HSBC Amanah Malaysia Bhd. The appointment is effective 4 January 2016.

Rafe brings with him a wealth of experience having held key business and functional positions in three global banks, an international asset management company and a legal firm. He has specialised in Islamic banking in the last 15 of his 20-year career and has worked in major financial markets including London, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur.

“Rafe is a proven leader, with a deep and broad understanding of Islamic Banking, having been an Islamic Banker for the last 15 years and worked in multiple financial centres around the world. I am confident he will bring tremendous value as he spearheads one of CIMB Group’s key business pillars.
