AWARE has just launched a TV campaign with Mediacorp artiste Zoe Tay to raise awareness for its Sexual Assault Care Centre (SACC), for women who have faced sexual assault. The two commercials in English and Mandarin will broadcast on Channel 5 and Channel U respectively from 25 November to 12 December. The TV spots are supported by Mediacorp Cares as part of its community outreach programme. The 30-second spot begins with Zoe Tay telling viewers: "Sexual assault can happen to anyone but no one should suffer in silence." She then goes onto introduce the SACC, emphasizing that the support services provided are "safe, free, and confidential".Incidentally, the launch date, 25 November, is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and the start of the '16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence" that will end on Human Rights Day, 10 December.Jolene Tan, AWARE's programmes and communications senior manager, said: “This generous move by MediaCorp and Zoe Tay will help AWARE reach many more women who could benefit from SACC’s services. Too often, victims of sexual assault, as well as their friends and family, don’t realise that help is available. This advertising campaign aims to change that.”These safe, free and confidential services such as immediate assistance and legal advice have supported many women through their recovery after sexual assault.“I have been greatly helped by SACC and have told my friends about this, especially my female friends in case they experience the similar incidents as I”, said one SACC client."I really believe that if I had some help then, maybe I would have recovered sooner [...] maybe I still wouldn’t be battling it 10 years on," said another client.Watch the spot below:http://vimeo.com/112678406
