Weber’s content arm launches across Asia

Following North America and Europe, Weber Shandwick has announced the third launch of its content creation unit Mediaco in Asia Pacific, based in Hong Kong.

Led by the agency’s head of digital Jon Wade (pictured), Mediaco combines editorial services with planning, production and paid media, for companies to publish their own news through digital and media channels.

“Brands taking control of their own news agenda is more important here than perhaps anywhere else on earth, Wade said.

“Mediaco empowers brands and organisations to break their own news online, using search engines and social media as their syndication channels to reach media, influencers and direct audiences alike.”

The initiative will also be supported by global Weber Shandwick team including Jason Wellcome, global head of Mediaco; Chris Perry, global head of digital, and Fiona Battle, head of Mediaco, EMEA.

“While it’s clear content has become the hot topic across the marketing and media industry, what’s less understood is how specialized and complex operating a new media model can be, especially one that requires both scale and a sustained approach,” said Wellcome.

While the offering is available for clients throughout Asia, the new digital production hubs will also based in Beijing, Sydney, Singapore, and India.
