VMLY&R has appointed Gary Teo (pictured) as managing director of experiences and technology, aimed at elevating the connected brand experience for clients across Asia. Based in Singapore, he will report to Asia co-CEO Tripti Lochan.
Teo returns to VMLY&R to lead the experiences and technology portfolio. He previously helmed the role of regional technology director and left in March 2018. He joined Accenture Interactive shortly after as marketing technologies lead.
With expertise in marketing technologies, customer experience and product management, Teo will be tasked to build the agency’s E&T capabilities and partnerships across the region. His immediate focus will be to apply customer experience and data-driven marketing technology solutions to help drive business KPIs and provide value for VMLY&R clients.
Teo has over 10 years of experience working with global brands, leveraging data and technology to optimise customer experience and drive lead generation. He first joined VML(Y&R) in 2013, where he led the agency’s technology practice, rapidly building and scaling the technology portfolio, capabilities and team. Some of the notable brands he worked with during his stint with VMLY&R include 3M, Hilton, Ford, CIMB, Shiseido and Dell.
According to Teo, VMLY&R is the “perfect incubator” that combines creative thinking with digital innovation, data and effectiveness. In doing so, the agency is able to produce the best solutions for clients.
“I’m excited to return to the agency and immerse myself in the vibrant, curious and enterprising spirit and I’m equally keen to deliver truly connected brands for clients and accelerate the agency’s trajectory in the region,” Teo said.
Lochan said: “We are delighted to welcome Teo back to the VMLY&R family. Client needs are changing every day, and as we continue to innovate and ramp up our capabilities across the region, Teo is a great complement to the team. With his extensive experience bringing together marketing technology, data and creativity, he is the ideal candidate to take the experience and technology division to greater heights. We look forward to the energy and ideas he will bring to the table.”
