Visa axes its APAC digital marketing team

Visa has let go of its digital marketing team in Singapore, Marketing understands. The team was headed by Nicki Kenyon, vice president, marketing APAC. Others on the team included Gurmit Singh, director, digital marketing; Thomas Lee, director, digital marketing and Yu Hung Khoo, senior business leader, digital strategy and marketing APAC.

Marketing has reached out to Visa for comments. A quick call by Marketing to all these individuals indicated that their cell phones were also no longer in use.

Kenyon, who was with the APAC team for a little over two years, has been responsible for driving the company’s marketing transformation enabled by technology, data and digital. In the past, she has worked in Australia, Asia and Middle East and held leadership and change management roles with companies such as Facebook, AsiaRooms.com, MasterCard and Cathay Pacific Airways.

Lee has over 12 years of experience as a digital marketer and was with Visa for more than three years. His main experience lies in the B2C technology space where he handled SEO, SEM, CRM, campaign tracking /optimisation, social media, mobile campaigns and digital media planning, both at baseline digital marketing as well as campaign management. He has worked with Nokia, HP, Epson and SIA in the past.

Singh has been with the company for over seven years. During his tenure, he managed digital, mobile and social strategy and regional roll-outs of global initiatives. In the past, he managed “Visagoexplore”, the company’s online portal. It included working with internal stakeholders to manage, develop and rationalise merchant relationships, and working with IT to deliver secure and effective digital content. He came with agency side experience, holding roles in TBWA and XM.

Moreover, with 17 years of experience, Khoo has worked with the company in an APAC capacity for over 10 years. His last role was senior director of digital strategy and marketing, which he held for four. In the past he had been the director for digital and governance communications for six years. Khoo also worked with Singapore Airlines, Pan Pacific Hotels Group and Johnson & Johnson Vision Care.

Most recently, Visa also appointed Frederique Covington as senior vice president and chief marketing officer. She was previously working with Twitter where she served the company’ international marketing director for Asia Pacific, Russia and the Middle East, overseeing significant growth for the site.

Covington took over from Rajiv Kapoor who is retiring from his position at Visa after almost 19 years.
