Mentholatum Asia Pacific marketing director Vincent Tsui will be leaving the healthcare brand to join Next Media as chief marketing officer overseeing the marketing of its digital media products.
He will begin his new role on Monday.
After seven years with Mentholatum, Tsui said he is ready for a new challenge in digital media.
“As consumers, we are all going digital and that is the future. Because Next Media is at the forefront of digital, I would like to get involved in it before everyone else really starts to digitise their businesses,” Tsui said.
Tsui says he feels that he is taking on his new role at a time when freedom of the press is increasingly coming under fire.
“Two months ago, when I was discussing this job with the management of Next Media, Occupy Central didn’t even happen yet,” he said.
“There are more and more pro-Beijing media organisations and fewer alternative voices available in the local media scene. How can people block the road to try and prevent trucks carrying your newspapers from exiting the area?”
He adds that entering the company at this time gives him a sense of mission.
“I’m not scared. Instead, I feel it’s very meaningful to defend Hong Kong’s freedom of speech together with my new company,” Tsui said.
