Viacom International Media Networks(VIMN) has partnered HyppTV, owned by Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), to launch Paramount Channel in Malaysia. This will be the first time the channel is launched in Malaysia. The Paramount Channel aims to be a contemporary entertainment destination where audiences of all ages can experience and celebrate years of films and exclusive behind-the-scenes content. To meet the growing entertainment demands for more curated movie experiences in Asia, the 24-hour network will offer audiences in Malaysia a unique mix of blockbusters, movie hits, cult favorites and some of the most award-winning Paramount Pictures’ films in the history of cinema. As part of the same agreement, two more Viacom channels, MTV Asia and Nickelodeon, will also join the HyppTV service from 1 August 2017. This will extend Viacom’s suite of channels available on the platform, which already includes Comedy Central Asia and Nick Jr. All five Viacom channels will also be available on HyppTV’s mobile app, HyppTV Everywhere.“Expanding the reach of Paramount Channel, MTV and Nickelodeon with HyppTV in Malaysia, enables us to meet the growing demand for our differentiated and high quality content to TM’s subscribers. Paramount Channel offers audiences one of the most unique and creatively-curated movie viewing experiences,” Paras Sharma, senior VP and GM, Southeast Asia, Viacom International Media Networks, said.“This will strengthen the family programming line-up for viewers in Malaysia. We are also pleased to add Nickelodeon and MTV Asia to the mix, which will enable us to continue to reach our kids and youth audiences.” Jeremy Kung, executive VP, New Media, TM, said. While the launch of Paramount Channel is the first in Malaysia, it is not the first in Asia. Back in February last year, VIMN secured its first distribution deal in Asia with CTH, a major Pay-TV operator, to launch the channel in Thailand.
