Verizon Media has been approaching potential buyers for Tumblr, according to The Wall Street Journal‘s sources. The move to offload Tumblr comes after Verizon sold another of Yahoo’s assets, Flickr, last year. Verizon Media has been struggling to meet revenue targets since it acquired Yahoo for US$4.48 billion in 2016, said the news report. On the back of this, Pornhub has told several media outlets such as Buzzfeed and CBS that it is “extremely interested” in buying the micro-blogging platform. It seeks to reverse the adult content ban on Tumblr last December and restore its reputation as a NSFW (not safe for work) hub. The move was a controversial one, costing Tumblr 16% of its web traffic in the month after the ban, according to data from SimilarWeb.Pornhub VP Corey Price said in a proposed a settlement to Buzzfeed News that Tumblr was a safe haven for those who wanted to explore and express their sexuality, adult entertainment aficionados included. He added that the team was “dismayed that such measures were taken to eradicate erotic communities” on Tumblr.Tumblr previously belonged to Yahoo, which had bought the platform in 2013. Yahoo is part of Verizon Media, previously known as Oath, after a US$4.48 billion acquisition by parent company Verizon Communications. The original agreed amount of US$4.83 billion was slashed after three data breaches affecting some three billion accounts in 2013-2016. Last month, Yahoo proposed a settlement of US$117.5 million. The customer data security breach litigation accuses Yahoo of holding back knowledge of the breaches.Read more:Tumblr blocked in Indonesia for pornographic content
