TV5, widely considered as an underdog in the Philippine media landscape, is making significant progress abroad as TV5 International becomes the second most watched Filipino channel in the Middle East and North Africa.TV5 International made the announcement last week as they renew its partnership with Orbit Showtime Network (OSN), a leading pay-TV company in the two regions mentioned. TV5 International president Claro Carmelo Ramirez (right) said the feat took the company just three years to achieve.“This is a huge milestone for TV5 International as not only are we celebrating a successful partnership, but we are also celebrating the fact that our young channels already enjoy over 1.2 million viewers in the Middle East, surpassing some other older channels,” he said.“OSN’s goal is to be present in every Filipino household in the Middle East and North Africa and to serve as the bridge that connects overseas Filipinos to their homes here in the Philippines. With the renewal of our partnership with TV5 International, we are one step closer to that goal,” OSN SVP Emad Morcos (left) adds.Craving for home, Filipinos working abroad is an enormous market for TV networks. The Country Migration Report (CMR) of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) says that a total of 1,802,031 Filipinos went abroad to work in 2012 and over 67% of them are Middle East-bound.TV5 International and its flagship shows Kapatid TV5 and Aksyon TV International is also airing in across the region via cable partners - DISH Network and DishWorld in the United States; Shaw Cable, Rogers Cable, Bell, Next TV, Juan TV and AEBC in Canada; OSN in the Middle East and North Africa; DU in UAE; ZAIN in Kuwait; MCV NTT Docomo in Guam; FetchTV in Australia; Hitron in Papua New Guinea and CSL mobile in Hong Kong.
