UNIQLO Singapore’s head of marketing Sim Yunying (pictured left) has joined recruitment firm The Talent Detective as a partner. Under the reins of founder Jimmy Yar (pictured right), who was previously with DDB Group, Sim will work together with Yar to “crack more talent cases” for its clients.
Sim brings with her a total of 11 years of experience in marketing and advertising, including stints at UNIQLO, The Secret Little Agency, DDB Singapore and Ogilvy Taipei. She spent the past four years as head of marketing for UNIQLO Singapore, where she managed a team of 10 to oversee marketing, creative, business strategy, organisation restructure and eCommerce.
Sim started her career in advertising by joining DDB Group’s graduate trainee programme in 2008. In her four years with DDB, she rose from account executive to associate business director, managing clients such as Tiger Beer, Volkswagen, UNIQLO, Cerebos and Health Promotion Board. Outside of the advertising world, Sim is a former MediaCorp Radio personality who hosted live radio shows and events. Sim said in this next phase of her career, she wants to focus on working with talents and clients to find the best fit – beyond the regular competency and skills matching.
“I’m very blessed to have met great career mentors in the past ten years. My mentors imparted skill sets and were generous in sharing their perspectives on tackling challenges. I’ve come to learn that the greatest thing anyone can ask for is to be in a place where one can maximise his or her potential,” she added.

She is someone who just ‘gets it’ in everything she does right from day one in her career. We share very similar work ethics and it’s a joy to join forces once again from our DDB days,” Yar said.
Yar founded the executive search firm in 2014, after exiting DDB as director of talent and operations. The firm focuses in the areas of account management, strategic planning, creative, digital and marketing talents. According to Yar, he aims for both Sim and himself to be one of the most respected headhunting duo in the advertising and marketing field.
